That is easier said than done. God is the source of your personal identity. And you must seek Him to know who He is in order to embrace the God-designed package of your personal identity.

Understanding your personal identity can be similar to understanding your company’s brand identity. Here are three questions to start you on your journey to discover your personal identity.

1. Who are you?

It doesn’t matter who others say you are. It doesn’t even matter who you think you are. All that matters is who God says you are.

Jeremiah was not prepared to believe who God said he was (Jeremiah 1:6). But you can learn from his account in the Scripture. You can believe who God says you are.

God doesn’t sell you short, so don’t sell yourself short. You are all God made you to be, so you can become all God wants you to be.

2. Why are you here?

It doesn’t matter what other people say your purpose is. It doesn’t even really matter what you think your purpose is. All that matters is what God says your purpose is.

Moses was not prepared to believe what God said his purpose was (Exodus 4:10, 13). But you can learn from his account in the Scripture. You can believe what God says your purpose is.

Once you understand your purpose, then you will understand what kind of work will fulfill the purpose God has called you to.

3. How will you serve?

It doesn’t matter what other people say your gifts are. It doesn’t even really matter what you think your gifts are. All that matters is what God says your gifts are.

Gideon was not prepared to believe what God said his gifts were (Judges 6:12-15). But you can learn from his account in the Scripture. You can believe what God says your gifts are.

Your gifts can change over time. God does not always call the equipped, but He always equips the called. God will help you develop your gifts so you will be ready for what He wants you to do.

You are exactly who God made you to be. You can use your gifts to become who God wants you to become. And you can do what God has called you to do. So you can discover your personal identity.
