What Fear Will Do If You Let It and What You Can Do About It

Has God ever told you to do something but fear stopped you in your tracks?  If that’s happened to you, you’re not alone.  It happens to all of us.  And fear will do even worse if we let it.

Jesus said in John 10:10 that the enemy of your soul comes to steal, kill, and destroy.  And fear is the strongest weapon that the enemy has.  And he will use that weapon every opportunity he can.

Here’s what fear will do to us if we let it—and what we can do about it.

1. Fear will steal your time.

When God wants us to do something, we want to make sure that we do it right.  But fear steps in and tells us that we need to get everything perfect before we do it.  So fear steals our time.

We can get stuck in “analysis paralysis”—trying to figure out if we have everything just so.  But that will never happen.  Due diligence is important.  But then we need to start.

We need to move forward.  We can’t allow fear to hold us back.  We have to be willing to trust that God will provide what we need along the way.

2. Fear will kill your dreams.

If God has planted a seed in you to do something, He wants you to do it.  But fear does not want you to do what God wants.  So expect fear to get in the way.

If you listen to fear, then you will allow those God-given dreams to die on the vine.  Because fear will kill your God-sized vision—if you let it.

A God-sized vision is exactly that—God-sized.  It can seem intimidating.  But God wants you to grow through the process of trusting Him to get it done.  Because it’s His vision for you.

3. Fear will destroy your future.

Jeremiah 29:11 says the Lord has thoughts and plans for you.  And He has a particular future in mind for you.  But you will have to participate with Him in bringing it about.  And fear doesn’t want that.

God wants you to join Him in the work that He wants to do.  He has something that He wants to do through you.  But you must believe that He is able to do what He says He can do.  Or else fear wins.

God can do more than we can ever ask or imagine through the power of the Holy Spirit in us (Ephesians 3:20).  But He wants you to be an active agent in your future.

Fear will come to steal your time.  And kill your dreams.  And destroy your future.  But you don’t have to let it.  You can believe what God can do instead.  And become all that He wants you to become.
